Ugly Christmas Sweater Cookies! / Ugly Christmas Sweater Day!
These are Ugly Christmas Sweater cookies and they are slightly ugly (haha!) -- that said, if there was a textile that looked like this on a shirt or dress, then I would probably buy it. Haha! :)
I saw them on the Food Network. They also used premade cookie dough. I think what made it difficult was that my cookie dough became warm. I think you should chill the dough before you cut your sweater shapes out; I will note this step below. When I saw it on TV, they were using chilled cookie dough before rolling it out, so they didn't have this problem.
Ugly Christmas Sweaters Day is the 3rd Friday of December! (Dec. 18 this year)
What I used:
- Pillsbury sugar cookie dough
- Red gel food coloring
- Green gel food coloring
- Plastic glove for mixing in food coloring
I mixed in the food coloring into some portions of dough. When you mix in the dough with your hands, it warms the dough a little bit. ** You could chill them here.
You make the doughs into little chunks of different colors next to each other. I actually did ratios: white : red : green = 2 : 1 : 1; twice as much white as red and green.
** I would recommend chilling it here for at least 30 min. in the fridge.
I don't have a sweater cookie cutter, so I just used a butter knife to cut them out. You can see it was hard for me to remove the dough around them. ** Chill your dough before cutting out the sweaters or whatever shape! :)
Then I baked them. Give it a try! We are good at this!
