Turkish Borek (Pastry w/ Chicken & Veggies)

This video from "Easy Turkish Recipes" for Borek was recommended to me in YouTube and has 1 million+ views! It looked good, so I decided to try it. Borek is "family of baked filled pastries made of thin flaky dough..." of Turkish origins and also found in the cuisines of Eastern Europe and Western Asia.

This Borek was filled with chicken and vegetables.




Attempt #1:



I did a modified version w/ rotisserie chicken, sauted onions, veggies from the salad bar (e.g. peas) and tomato sauce.


I had some puff pastry dough leftover from other dishes, which I reshaped for the Borek pastries.









I mixed together the filling. Then, I put it inside the pastry dough in a little package. I brushed on some egg wash. I baked them at 400 degrees for 15-18 min. until they were golden brown.



RESULT: Success!


We are good at this! How good does that look?


It is something that I was not familiar with before having it recommended to me by YouTube. It was really good, fun to make and I learned more about Turkish cuisine too. In a way, it's similar to other dishes from around the world in that it is dough with a savory filling. There are a lot of similarities between different cuisines from around the world.


It is a nice snack and one Borek of this size is almost hearty enough to be a meal for everyday or it can be an appetizer for a get-together.
