Shrunken Head Potato

This Shrunken Head Potato from Tesco on Pinterest was so cute and it brought back good memories! I went to a museum in Oxford, England with my friends that had shrunken heads! I don't know if they were real or not. Haha! :)

I decided to post it for "Talk Like a Pirate Day" because pirates probably have shrunken heads in their bounty. Haha! :) They posted it for Halloween / spooky themed food. It's actually so fun, I decided to make all my baked potatoes Shrunken Heads all-year round! Haha! :)

Talk Like A Pirate Day

John Baur (“Ol' Chumbucket”) and Mark Summers (“Cap'n Slappy”) created this holiday on June 6, 1995. Out of respect for World War II’s D-Day, Baur and Summers chose to move the date of the holiday to September 19.

International Talk Like A Pirate Day was a low-key event until 2002 when it received media attention via syndicated humor columnist Dave Barry. Today, it is celebrated around the world as a way to raise funds for charity organizations, such as Childhood Cancer Support and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

What I used:

- Potato

- Pastry Tip (to make eyes) - Butterknife

A lot of times when I make "baked" potatoes I use the microwave only because it's faster, but here I used both the microwave (to speed things up) and then the oven because the oven helped shrink it more and get wrinkly. :)

I microwaved the potato for ~2 1/2 or 3 min. It was softer and easier to carve. It was cooked; I could just eaten it here, but as I mentioned above, I wanted it to get more wrinkly, so I put it in the oven. Haha! :)

I used a pastry tip to make holes for the eye sockets. I could have used a butterknife, but a pastry tip is a nice perfectly round shape and it just cored out a little piece of potato (which I ate! :) )

Then I used a butterknife to carve a nose and mouth area.

I put it in the oven at 400 degrees for a little bit. See how wrinkly and worn he got. Haha! :)

So fun and easy to do! It's just a potato!
