Sausage Skull


This is a fun, spooky and easy giant(!) meatball design I came up with after making Meatball Ghosts inspired by Chef John's. Check out that post!

You could also use your favorite meatball or meatloaf or hamburger recipe in place of sausage.


It's a good fit for Halloween or anytime a year, especially if you want to learn skull anatomy. Haha! :)








What I used:

- Ground Italian Sausage

- Prego tomato sauce

- Crystal Farms cheese wraps (These are about 6" diameter or something; they are intended to be used in place of a tortilla for a keto/low-carb wrap, but the size gave nice coverage over the skull! It's just cheese!

- Garlic powder (just to amp up the tomato sauce)











I shaped the sausage into a skull shape and I baked it at 400 degrees for about 35-40 min. or so. You can't really overcook sausage. Leave it in longer if you have questions. :)



On the serving plate I was using I put some tomato sauce with garlic powder and I microwaved it for 1 minute.


I took 2 Crystal Farms wraps and put them on top of the skull as shown. Then I microwaved it for two 30-second intervals. Microwave times may vary. I microwaved it for 30-seconds and then I checked on it and then I microwaved it for another 30 seconds.


I used 2 layers of cheese because once the cheese melted I thought it would be too thin with just 1 layer of cheese.



Here it is after it melted! :) It looks like I'm going to stab my Sausage Skull. Haha! :) Just carving a little face.



Here's the finished product! Spooky and delicious! :)


You can slice it up and serve it with a side of spaghetti or bread. Whatever you like. :)
