Meringue Rocks / Old Rock Day

Made you look! This is basically a meringue made with powdered sugar (not granulated sugar or superfine sugar) and gel food coloring of 3 different colors: black, blue-green, and pink. The 3 colors swirled together turned out like I thought it would; actually better!
I made these inspired by Old Rock Day! As I mentioned before I'm definitely the type of person that collects old rocks. I just watched a cute movie with Lucille Bowl & Desi Arnaz called the Long, Long Trailer on TCM -- and she collects A LOT of old rocks in it too. Haha! :)

I started with recipe on the Food Network for Christmas Coal candy, which really looks like rocks too! Then I decided just to experiment with it and experiment with color.

What I used:
- 1 egg white
- 1/2 cup of powdered sugar
- Gel food coloring: black, blue-green, pink
- Toothpick / Bamboo skewer
What I did was mix 1 egg white with 1/2 cup of powdered sugar until frothy. I added 1 drop of black, pink blue-green gel food color and then I swirled them together with a bamboo skewer (big toothpick).
Then I put it in this little oven-safe ramekin covered with parchment paper and baked it for about 2 hours or so at 240 degrees.
After I let it dry out, I cracked off rocks! I wasn't sure what was going to happen making a meringue with powdered sugar, but it baked and it really looks like a rock. I like the dimension that using the different food coloring adds.
