Happy Jan. 23! National Pie Day!
National Pie Day -- not to be confused with Pi Day (Mar. 14) where you can also eat pies and do math. Here is an idea for unique geometric colorful pie crust designs that I came up with and also a caged dome-shaped mini-pie that is a variation from a Hungry Cat YouTube video I saw.
Check out the individual posts! :)
The mini-pie is a savory pie (with spinach, onions and cheese) and the one with the geometric pie crust design is a cranberry or dessert pie. We forget that pies can be savory and not just sweet.
What is a pie?
"A pie is a sweet or savory dish with a crust and a filling. The sides of a pie dish or pan are slopedIt can have a just a bottom, just a top, or both a bottom and a top crust. A pie crust is traditionally made of flour, salt, cold water, and lard (or shortening) but many pie crust recipes use a combination of fats such as butter, lard, or vegetable shortening, or just butter. The goal is a crisp, flaky crust. Pies are served straight from the dish in which they were baked. "
What is National Pie Day?
" The American Pie Council created this day simply to celebrate the pie. "

Cage Dome-Shaped Mini-Pie (w/ spinach, onions, and cheese)
This can be made into a sweet pie by changing the filling. The only thing is the filling has to be heaped to "fill the dome." :)
