Feb. 15! Celebrating Pangolins, Hippos, & Whales -- Lots of Animals!
You probably know what hippos and whales are, but not pangolins! There are some fun facts below about all of the animals.
Check out the individual posts!
I came up with a recycling technique that you can use to make 3-D animal cookies or other 3-D cookies to make one of the pangolin cookies. I also used mixed media and used hard candy to create the pangolin's scales. :)
"Pangolins are the only mammal to be covered in scales. To protect themselves, they curl into balls like hedgehogs.Their name comes from the Malay word ‘pengguling’ meaning ‘something that rolls up’.
"Whales are the largest animals on Earth and they live in every ocean.
The massive mammals range from the 600-pound dwarf sperm whale to the colossal blue whale, which can weigh more than 200 tons and stretch up to 100 feet long—almost as long as a professional basketball court.
Whales are warm-blooded creatures that nurse their young."
I was inspired by different Pins on Pinterest when I searched "whale desserts". There are a lot on there!
"The name Hippopotamus comes from the Ancient Greek ‘river horse’. Hippos bask on the shoreline and secrete an oily red substance, which gave rise to the myth that they sweat blood. The liquid is actually a skin moistener and sunblock that may also provide protection against germs.
An adult Hippo needs to resurface every 3 – 5mins to breathe...
Despite its stocky shape and short legs, it can easily outrun most humans. Hippos have been clocked at 30 km/h over short distances."
I was inspired by this Pin on Pinterest for the Hippo cookies.
