Crab Rangoon Pizza
Updated: Aug 24
This was inspired by Fong's Pizza in Des Moines, Iowa, which was featured on "Best Thing I Ever Ate" by Alton Brown on the Food Network. It seemed like a fun mash-up! I didn't follow their recipe; just the idea of crab rangoon elements on a pizza.
What I used:
- Pizza crust
- Crab cake (~2 or 3 oz.)
- Cream cheese
- 1 egg roll wrapper (in pieces)
Note: In crab rangoon, in general, and in their pizza, they don't use real crab. I had a crab cake, so that's what I used. Alton Brown said he made a version at home with real crab too, but he thought the fake crab (which is haddock / fish) in their pizza tasted better. :)
You could use imitation crab, crab cake or lump crab if you want.
I baked the pizza crust at 400 degrees for ~5-7 minutes with no toppings.
Then, I just put the some cream cheese, crab cake, and mozzarella on it. The benefit of using a crab cake is that it already has a spice mix in it, so I didn't add any additional spices. If you would like you could add some garlic powder. I baked it for additional 6-8 minutes until everything was warm and cheese was soft or melt-y.
While the pizza was in the oven...
I tore apart 1 egg roll wrapper into pieces and fried it in oil on medium-high. If you have some egg roll wrappers that have broken apart, it's something you can do to add texture (like a cracker or crouton) to other dishes, not just your crab rangoon pizza.
Then I put the crispy egg roll wrapper pieces on top! That's it! Yum! You get crispy and creamy and it is like crab rangoon and also pizza. could make smaller bite size versions for appetizer size also.
Give it a try! We are good at this!
