Can I Make "Yogurt Carbonara"?
Updated: Aug 25, 2020
I had a big container of Greek Yogurt that I need to eat or use within 5 days of opening (haha!), so I decided to try to make this Spaghetti with Yogurt Carbonara I saw on Pinterest from Sunday Riley. I liked the idea of Yogurt for creaminess with pasta because it's lower fat & lower calories than heavy cream.
What I used:
- Barilla Protein Angel Hair Pasta
(tastes like normal pasta to me, but is higher protein)
- Greek Yogurt
- 1 egg
- grated Parmesan cheese
- garlic powder
- red chili flakes
- dried oregano
I was going to add the mozzarella string cheese for more cheesiness, but I forgot too.
I cooked angel hair pasta as normal in generously salted boiling water. In a bowl, I mixed together all the other ingredients: some yogurt, an egg, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, red chili flakes, dried oregano.
After I drained the pasta, I let it cool for a few minutes before mixing in the sauce. I didn't want to mix it in when the pasta was really hot because the egg part of the sauce might have scrambled. I just mixed it together in the colander to save another dish from the dishwasher.
Then I added some fresh basil from my urban garden on the windowsill! :) Check out the urban garden post.
RESULT: Success! :)
We are good at this! It's really good. It tastes slightly different than an alfredo sauce or carbonara sauce made with heavy cream, but it's very creamy and tastes really good! Also has much lower fat and calories! :)
Give it a try! We are good at this!
