Can I Make "White Sandwich Bread"?

Updated: Aug 28, 2020

I decided to make white sandwich bread for my Cheesy Bread Cube! Check out that post! I found this recipe from the Pioneer Woman on the Food Network and I had all the ingredients, so I was excited to get started.

Attempt #1:

In my excitement, somehow I must have glossed over how long it takes to make and missed the 4 hours and 20 min. Haha! :) I had made pizza dough, so I knew it had to rise, but after I got started, then I looked back at the recipe and saw it would take 4 hours and 20 min., then I thought: "Oh, this is going to take awhile." Haha! I was committed to making the Cheesy Bread Cube, so I kept going.

I only made a half-batch. The ingredients are pretty simple.

- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

- 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter, melted, plus more for buttering the bowl and loaf pans

- 1 tablespoon sugar

- 2 teaspoons kosher salt

- 5 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for flouring the board

Here is how I put the dough together. In a way baking bread is easier than cakes or some cookies because you don't have to worry too much about how long to mix it.

Here is the dough before and after I kneaded it for 15 min. I just watched TV while I was kneading it. I let it rise for 1 hour.

Then you knead it for another 5 min. and let it rise for another hour.

Then you put it in the buttered breadpans and let it rise for another 45 min. before baking.

Here they are before baking after letting it rise for the 3rd time.

RESULT: Success! :)

We are good at this! I was pleasantly surprised when I took them out of the oven. It looked like sandwich bread! And it tasted really good!

This is a pretty easy recipe. It just takes awhile because you have to let it rise 3 times. There is not too much active work though. It is fun for making Cheesy Bread Cubes or just baking fresh bread.

Baking bread is pretty fun and gratifying to see the bread rise with the yeast and the fresh baked finished product. :)

Give it a try! We are good at this!

Here you can see the inside of the sandwich bread with ooey cheeesy goodness too!
