Can I Make This Cute Pumpkin-Shaped Cheeseball?
It is not Halloween yet and I still have some spooky Halloween treats that I want to try to make, but I saw this Thanksgiving video on Buzzfeed Nifty and this pumpkin-shaped cheeseball (around 2:47) was so cute I had to try it. The pumpkin-shaped cheeseball can be part of a cornucopia for Halloween and Thanksgiving anyways. :)
The main ingredients are: cream cheese (16 oz., two 8-oz. packages), shredded cheddar and the stem of a bell pepper. As you can see, I like Philadelphia cream cheese and Sargento Cheddar (I like them; they're cheese people. Haha. :) ) .
In the video (around 2:47), they are making a flavored cheeseball, so they cut up a bell pepper put it in the cream cheese. They also add cheddar, green onions, and garlic powder.
This is written as Steps/Instructions at the bottom of the post.
I just wanted to make a cheeseball in the shape of a pumpkin, so I didn't do that: I just used cream cheese and shredded cheddar.
When you are looking at bell peppers in the grocery store, make sure you pick one that has a stem that will look like a pumpkin stem, so choose a longer stem.
I molded 2 packages of cream cheese into a ball. On plastic wrap, sprinkle a generous amount of cheddar (this will be the outside orange color of the pumpkin). In the video, they just put some cheddar on top and wrapped up the ball to cover the cream cheese ball in cheddar. I pressed some additional cheddar onto the cream cheese before wrapping it to make sure the cheddar adhered to the cream cheese. They didn't do this in the video.
Wrap the ball and arrange 4 rubber bands, so they are evenly spaced apart. Place the 1st rubberband so it splits the sphere in half; place the 2nd one perpendicular to the 1st one. Then, put the 3rd one so it splits one of the quadrants in half and put the 4th one so it splits the other quadrant in half.
The rubberbands I had weren't as tight as in the video, so I doubled up and put another layer of rubberbands over where I put the 4 rubberbands. So I put 8 rubberbands total.
I also pressed on the rubberbands to help form the pumpkin shape. They didn't do this in the video.
Place in the fridge for at least 2 hours to let it set.
Take out and unwrap the cheeseball. Press the stem of a bell pepper into the top to form the stem of a pumpkin.
It's really easy. Prep work total is about 2 minutes and then you just put it in the fridge to let it set. Take it out and pop the stem in.
That's it! We are good at this!
Prep work before putting in the fridge - 2 min.
Putting it all together (after at least 2 hours in the fridge)
- Cream cheese (16 oz., two 8-oz. packages)

-- This is for the outside orange color of the pumpkin
- Stem of a bell pepper
-- Pick one with a longer stem; this is the stem of the pumpkin
- Plastic wrap
- Rubberbands (4 or 8)
