Can I Make "Pepperoni Pizza Dip"?
Updated: Aug 26, 2020
This recipe from Guy Fieri of the Food Network looked really good and a fun twist on pizza and on dips! I like his show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives which highlights mom & pop restaurants, which helps them and makes them destination places.
This is a dip and I made little pieces of Pillsbury pizza dough shaped like pizzas (to be cute!) and for plain crackers/flatbread, but
if you would like a keto/low-carb option than you can just eat it with a spoon. I also did that too btw. Haha! :) Also if you want a vegetarian option, just don't put the pepperoni.
I didn't have all the ingredients (like eggs or ricotta), but I had most of them and I had the pepperoni! I made a smaller individual portion.
What I used:
- Cream cheese
- Diced Tomatoes (maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of the can)
- Mushrooms (just like 8 or 10 pieces)
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Chili flakes
- Basil leaves
- Black Pepper
- Mozzarella cheese (2 string cheese / 2 oz.)
- Parmesan cheese
I put the cream cheese (typically you would also include egg and ricotta in here too) and the spices into the serving dish. I then just put it in the 400 degree oven with the little "pizza-shaped" bread dough to soften the cheese.
I crisped up the pepperonis and mushrooms in a pan with some oil.
Then I put it to the side and made the sauce.
Then I added the tomato sauce to the same pan -- got some pepperoni oil with the sauce too -- yum! I added some garlic powder, red chile flakes, oregano, and basil and let it simmer together for a few minutes.
Then I added the sauce on top of the cream cheese, mozzarella / parmesan and pepperoni & mushroom topping like a pizza and put it in the oven to get the mozzarella to melt and for it to get cheesy!
RESULT: Success! :)
We are good at this! It was really good! I wouldn't have thought to make the creamy cheese bottom layer. :)
Below are some pics.
Give it a try! We are good at this!
