Can I Make mini-Hot Sausage Dip?
Updated: Nov 25, 2019
This Well Done YouTube channel's video on casseroles looked really good, especially the hot sausage dip. Casseroles seem kind of retro and not hip, but they are tasty! They also seem to be something that are complicated and that you make for a lot of people. I decided to make a mini-version of the hot sausage dip for myself.
I like this Well Done YouTube channel; they have good content -- I especially love the food styling videos! :)

In the video, they use enough ingredients to fill a whole big casserole dish: probably 1lb. or 2 lbs. hot sausage, tomato & chiles, probably ~8 oz. of cream cheese, and a lot of cheddar on top.
Basically, you cook the sausage and then drain it and then put it in the casserole dish. Then, you add the tomato & chiles, all the cream cheese, then mix together and top it off with cheddar before it goes in the 350 degree oven.
What I did:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
I just used 1 Italian sausage link I had (not 1 or 2 lbs.), cut it into small pieces and then browned it in a pan. I didn't have hot sausage; I just used mild. I did add some chili flakes in.
I also didn't have fresh tomato & chiles; I had sundried tomatoes in the fridge. I cut up 4 slices of sundried tomatoes into small pieces.
I added the sausage and sundried tomatoes to this cute little ramekin (which is safe in the oven) and then I added 1 oz. of cream cheese and mixed it all together.
I topped it off with some shredded cheddar and put it in the 350 degree oven -- for 20-25 min. as in the video.
RESULT: Success! :)
We are good at this! How good does that look? I had it with some Have'a Corn Chips I really like. More photos below.
I guess technically I didn't make hot sausage dip because I used mild sausage. I did add some chili flakes in there too. :)
Either way, it is really tasty and filling. This whole thing (not including chips) has ~330 calories and I could only finish 1/2 for lunch.
If casseroles aren't cool, then I'm fine with being lame. Haha. :)
Casseroles do not have to be intimidating and you can make just a small amount like I did. It was really easy to make. It took 5 min. before putting it in the oven. You probably have these things in your fridge.
Give it a try! We are good at this!
