Can I Make "Bang Bang Shrimp" [Copycat Recipe]?

Updated: Aug 25

When I saw this copycat Bonefish Grill recipe for Bang Bang Shrimp on Pinterest from dinneratthezoo.com , I had to try it! And actually there isn't a Bonefish Grill for 500 miles from where I live anyways. Father's Day made me think of it because my Dad loved going to Bonefish on Tuesdays for the Senior Discount and we would get multiple orders of Bang Bang Shrimp. :)

Attempt #1:

I was making a small batch for myself, so I used a lot less than what is on the ingredient list.

And I pretty much had everything on the list, except for mayo.

I substituted sour cream for mayo and buttermilk.

Ingredients for full serving:

  • 2 pounds shrimp medium (31-40 count); deveined and peeled

  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk

  • 2 cups cornstarch

  • 2 teaspoons salt

  • 1 teaspoon pepper

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 6 cups vegetable oil

  • 1 cup mayonnaise

  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce

  • 2 tablespoons green onion sliced

I used frozen shrimp and I defrosted them under cold water. Then I coated them with corn starch and fried them in hot oil to get them crispy.

In the meantime, I made the sauce, I mixed sweet chili sauce, sour cream, salt, pepper, and garlic powder all together.

Then I just coated the shrimp with the sauce I made.

RESULT: Success! :)

We are good at this! The shrimp were really good and it was a good copycat recipe because it pretty much tasted like the Bang Bang Shrimp I remembered! :) It was a good memory of getting a good deal with my Dad for the Bang Bang Shrimp. Haha! :)

It's an appetizer, but it can also be a meal. I ate it with rice.

Give it a try! We are good at this!
