Can I Make a "Tornado Omelette”?
Updated: Mar 15, 2020
This "Tornado Omelette" Yummyboy YouTube video has 10+ million views! When it was recommended to me, I knew I had to try it!
A "Tornado Omelette" is a Korean street food where the chef twirls chopsticks in one hand and shakes/spins the pan in another hand to make eggs look like a tornado or mound over fried rice.
Here is the Yummyboy video. I used this video on Cookat's YouTube channel as a guide.
The tornado omelette is served over fried rice. So I made fried rice. Fried rice is easy to make & a good way to clean out your fridge; check out that post for more info. :)
I didn't make the sauce that comes with it. I just wanted to try out making the omelette part. :)
What I used:
- Fried Rice
- 4 eggs
Equipment/Supplies: Chopsticks, non-stick pan, bowl (to make a mound of fried rice)
I suppose you could try to make a smaller "Tornado Omelette," (& use 2 or 3 eggs) but I thought it would actually be harder to try with less eggs because there would be less substance to work with.
I took my fried rice & put it in a bowl and then dumped it on a plate to make a mound on which to place my Tornado Omelette.
Then, I used my left-hand (dominant hand) and twirled chopsticks over the eggs and shook/spun the pan with my right hand. I put my attempt on YouTube. Haha! :) Check it out!
RESULT: Fail! :)
We are good at this? My "Tornado Omelette" has a hole and so it's more of a "Volcano Omelette". Haha! :) It still tasted good & it was super fun to try. I even practice the technique without eggs in the pan before trying. I'm going to try again sometime soon. Those chefs that make the "Tornado Omelettes" are super talented.
I highly suggest you give this a try. It's really fun! If you mess up, it's just scrambled eggs or an omelette. No biggie.
Give it a try! We are good at this!
