Ballin' Chicken & Waffles
Updated: Aug 27, 2020
This is a lazy person's twist on Sunny's Crazy Rich Chicken & Waffles from the Food Network. Haha! :) You can check out the original here.
The gold dust / paint they use -- really looked like gold paint!
What is Waffle Day?
Anyways, I decided to do this for International Waffle Day! Apparently there is also a US-specific Waffle Day on August 24, which "honours the anniversary of the patenting of the first US waffle iron invented by Cornelius Swarthout of Troy, New York and is celebrated on 24th August." I will re-post this on August 24 and come up with another idea for August 24th too! :)
History of Waffles
"Food historians trace the waffle’s DNA back to ancient Greece(!)
, when cooks roasted flat cakes between two metal plates attached to a long wooden handle. Obelios, as the cakes were called, weren’t particularly sweet or decadent, but their design evolved over time as people began customizing the plates."

What I used:
- Eggo waffle
- Tyson's chicken tender
- Edible Gold Dust
I just toasted the waffle and Air Fry-ed the chicken tender. Oops, might have left the chicken in there a little too longer.
Then I painted on edible gold dust. My gold dust didn't look as much like paint as in the Food Network pic, but still looks pretty ballin'!
I added some green onions and a little syrup. The edible gold dust repelled the syrup, who knew?
It was easy, fun, tasty & ballin'! :)
Give it a try! We are good at this!
